Looking for flexibility, variety and the freedom to travel?
As a travel midwife you can take your skills on the road, working across metro, regional, rural and remote maternity settings Australia‑wide.
If you want to explore new places, build your experience or just mix up your usual routine, travel midwifery lets you choose when and where you work.
HOW DOES TRAVEL MIDWIFERY WORK?
Travel midwifery allows you to work in different locations while staying employed by one national agency. You’re employed and paid by us, with access to flexible placements through our branches across Australia – from major cities to regional centres and even rural and remote areas.
You will support facilities during peak demand; staff leave and short‑term workforce gaps. Roles can range from short stints and block bookings to longer contracts, giving you the freedom to move between locations – backed by local branch support wherever you go.

YOUR FIRST SHIFT
Once your first shift is locked in, we’ll send you an email with all the key details. This will include information about the facility, the area or ward you’ll be working in, and who to check in with when you arrive – usually the NUM or a team leader.
We’ll ask you to arrive about 15 minutes early so you can have a quick welcome and orientation. This is just to run through the essentials, like emergency procedures, where staff areas are located, and where to find medications and supplies. After that, you’ll be assigned your patient load and can settle into your shift.
We love to hear how things go, so we’ll do our best to check in with you after your first shift. That said, please feel free to reach out anytime – whether it’s a quick SMS or a phone call. We’re always here to help.
Travel midwife FAQs
Travel midwife placements can vary in length depending on the role and location. Some roles are just a few weeks, while others may run for months. You can choose shorter stints or longer contracts depending on your preferences.
Travel midwives are often paid higher hourly rates than permanent roles, particularly for regional, rural or hard‑to‑fill locations. Pay rates vary depending on experience, location and shift type – and we always aim to get you the best rate possible.
We place midwives across Australia through our 12-branch network, with roles in metro and regional locations. If you’re keen to mix things up, we also offer rural and remote roles – great for getting out the city, changing pace, and keeping work fresh.
