Types of agency midwife shifts
Agency midwifery gives you options. Work when you want, where you want, and in the way that suits your life right now. From one‑off shifts to longer bookings and travel roles, it’s all about flexibility without compromise.
Casual shifts let you book work around your life. Pick up single shifts at hospitals and maternity units, or mix things up and try new settings. Ideal if you’re balancing study, travel, family or another job.
Want consistent hours without going permanent? Pre-booked shifts are available up to 4 weeks in advance – give you structure without sacrificing flexibility.
Love the idea of exploring different places? Travel midwifery lets you take your skills on the road, working from our 11 branches across Australia.
Metro roles are perfect if you want fast‑paced hospital environments close to home. Or you can take a break from city life and make a real difference with a rural or remote placement.

Agency midwife FAQs
You’ll need a minimum of 12 months paid experience as a registered midwife and current AHPRA registration. You’ll also be asked to provide two clinical referees who can confirm your recent midwifery practice, along with full vaccination compliance. Current CPR and relevant emergency midwifery competencies are also required.
Agency nurses are paid competitively, with penalty rates for nights and weekends depending on the shift and location. Specialised roles usually pay more, and you’ll always know the rate before you accept a shift or contract. Once your timesheet is submitted and approved, you’ll be paid weekly.
You’re in control of the shifts you take on. Our easy‑to‑use app lets you browse and manage day‑to‑day shifts, pre‑booked shifts, and block bookings up to four weeks in advance. Whether you like to plan ahead or pick up last‑minute work, you get flexibility without losing structure. You can also call our team on 1300 034 494 to manage your shifts.
We place midwives across Australia through our 12 branches nationwide, with roles in metro and regional locations. If you’re keen to mix things up, we also offer travel midwife opportunities, with placements through our rural and remote nursing agency – great for seeing new places, changing pace, and keeping work fresh.
To get started with us as a RM, you’ll need current AHPRA registration, up to date mandatory training (BLS, manual handling, medication safety), a National Police Check, a Working With Children Check if required, and immunisation/serology evidence as per your state and the facility. Missing something? We’ll help you sort it out so you can jump on shifts asap.
